Magnum Photos featured Lopreiato’s three year creative documentary
and biographical project, The Timelapse, in the best practices section of their website.
Lopreiato was selected among other 5 artists globally, following a review of her project with Magnum photographers, last July 2020.
Letizia Lopreiato review with multidisciplinary artist and Magnum photographer, Mikhael Subotzky marked an incredible turning point in the artist's career and confidence in her practice, as Mikhael's words unlocked for Letizia the understanding of how her visual impairment has been shaping both her artistic practice, and her healing journey through art thanks to this project, in the most natural and organic way.
In Letizia's words:
"The Timelapse (2018-2021), is my three year creative documentary and biographical project, shot on 35mm film, in various locations across Italy and Ireland.
The Timelapse represents my way to bring JUSTICE to the amazing STORY from grief to love, that has been the one of relocation of my mum to Ireland in 2019,
following the passing of my dad, and after sixteen years apart.
The most transformative opportunity that TRAUMA and GRIEF have represented for both my mum and myself, deserved to be narrated outside of all clichés,
for it to be shared as the story of SELF-EMPOWERMENT, that it has meant for us, in our IDENTITY AS WOMEN.
This project embodies the cathartic power that only art could have gifted me with, in the acceptance of my VISUAL IMPAIRMENT,
and the transmutation of the fear that came with it, into the highest source, not only of strength and courage,
but above all, of RESILIENCE, and FAITH IN LIFE.
The Timelapse is the tale of how my mum and myself came HOME, home to ourselves, home to one another, not in the shores of MEMORY,
but in the ones of IRELAND and its amazing COMMUNITY. - Letizia Lopreiato - "
